FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How did Discovery Paranormal happen, What
made you guys want to do the show?
A
Q
Discovery Paranormal has been on cable and the Internet for nearly a year. I
(Michael Angley the shows producer) have watched many other paranormal
series on television and I wanted to take ghost hunting to the next level and
actually have a conversation instead of just listening for bumps in the night. We
use electronic equipment to record the evidence but also use dowsing rods
which is an ancient science to establish yes and no answers. Whatever evidence
we get is what we put out there. The show has a "point of view" perspective
which allows the viewer to become part of the investigation.
Q
What is the difference between paranormal and supernatural?
The difference between supernatural and paranormal? There are a lot of
definitions of these words. Supernatural to me means anything above
nature, but really nothing is above nature if it exists, it is by definition part
of nature. Supernatural basically means the existence of things beyond the
visible observable universe. Supernatural and Paranormal are joined
together even though the word Paranormal strictly means "not scientifically
explainable" but yet on Discovery Paranormal we use electronic devices to
record paranormal events.

How did Michael Angley meet Peter Kanellis?
When I thought about putting together Discovery Paranormal I was
researching different local paranormal groups that do these
investigations. I had a loose format in mind and wanted to keep the
investigative group as small as possible and be able to preserve the
raw investigation so it feels like you are there, being part of it. Peter
Kanellis was part of a local group of ghost hunters and I contacted him
to talk about what I had in mind for the show. We met and decided to
do an investigation together. We investigated the Hangar Theater in
Ithaca NY. It was a great investigation and found some solid evidence.
Pete had a lot of investigations under his belt from his other group and
was a natural for the show. I knew that we would be a great
combination and we have a lot of fun doing these investigations.
Q
How many episodes have you done together?
We have done twenty-two episodes to date (April 2010). There is a
lot involved in the process of doing the investigation, reviewing the
recorded material and looking for evidence of paranormal activity,
then editing together the show. When we do an investigation we
have hours and hours of material to review, but we can normally
get it on-air within two weeks.

What kind of equipment do you use?
We use a lot of scientific equipment in our investigations, like infrared
cameras which are used to shoot in total darkness, electromagnetic field
detectors - the theory is that entities give off a radio signal. Digital voice
recorders with electronic condenser microphones to pick up EVP's
"electronic voice phenomena," which are sounds and voices that we may
have heard or may not, but the recorders usually pick them up. Pete's
dowsing rods and I have grown to trust them in the investigations. Pete's
grandmother was also a great dowser and it runs in the family. We also
use many other things as simple as powder on the floor to reveal
footprints, and as complex as taking temperature readings to establish a
"base condition" for the area being investigated.
Q
A
Are you and Pete religious?
Are Pete and I religious? The investigations are what they are, we use
scientific equipment and everything at our disposal to get the evidence
out there. I ask questions about heaven and hell, but it would seem
that in the afterlife it's all subjective as in our realm. It's interesting to
note that When I ask if there is a heaven they usually say yes, and if I
ask if there is a hell, they all say no. I won't answer the religion
question for Peter, but I know that I believe in different levels of
existence, and I don't follow man. We are only here to learn to love.

How do I become a ghost hunter?
We usually tell people not to. You have to be careful what doors you
open and what you invite in. I feel that if something is in your heart then
you should follow the rule "do what feels right and don't do what feels
wrong. The doorway to the paranormal world is very thin and sometimes
we can see that realm. But not all is good.
